Driver Of Airborne Vehicle With Infant Had BAC 4X Legal Limit: Police

A Pennsylvania woman has been arrested on a warrant nearly a week after she crashed her BMW into multiple vehicles— before becoming airborne —landing on the roof of a restaurant with an infant in the backseat, according to a release by the police.

Theresa Joanne Risso, 43, had her blood alcohol levels tested following the crash and the results show .327 percent, the legal limit is .08 percent, according to the release by Shamokin Dam police.

A warrant was issued for her arrest when the police went to retest her levels and search her home, but she was nowhere to be found, Shamokin Dam police Chief Tim Bremigen stated in the release.

She was eventually found and was arrested on Thursday, Mar. 10 at approximately 7:30 p.m., Chief Bremigen says.

She has been charged with the following according to police and court records, but Bremigen reminds the public that these charges might change:

  • Endangering Welfare of Children – Felony 1
  • Aggravated Assault – Felony 1 (2 counts)
  • Aggravated Assault by Vehicle While Driving Under the Influence – Felony 2
  • Causing or Risking a Catastrophe – Felony 2
  • Aggravated Assault by Vehicle – Felony 3
  • Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Controlled Substance – Misdemeanor 1 (2 counts)
  • Recklessly Endangering Another Person – Misdemeanor 2
  • Accidents Involving Damage to Attended Vehicle or Property – Misdemeanor 3 (3 counts)
  • Criminal Mischief – Summary
  • Reckless Driving – Summary
  • Careless Driving – Summary
  • Driving Vehicle at Safe Speed – Summary
  • Restraint Systems – Summary

Her preliminary hearing has been scheduled before Magisterial District Judge John H. Reed on Mar. 17 at 1 p.m., according to her court docket.

Snyder County Children and Youth continue to be involved regarding the infant rescued from Risso's vehicle.
